The Silk and Soul market booth full of handmade concrete and amber candles

Two Markets, One Weekend (and Huntington, We're Coming Home)

Market recap. And a little bit of a love letter.

This past weekend we did two markets back to back: the Seaford Oktoberfest on Saturday and the Massapequa Park Street Fair on Sunday. I'm still tired. I'm also still smiling.

Saturday: Seaford Oktoberfest

Seaford started slow. Like, really slow. But by the afternoon it picked right up, and it turned into a beautiful day.

This was the day our soaps made their debut, and you loved them. Chai Oat Milk, Harvest Spice and Amber Woods, all cold process and scented only with essential oils. So many of you picked them up, smelled them, and asked the best questions.

Your fan favorites on the candle shelf:

  • Root & Rind, grapefruit, mangosteen and vetiver
  • Candied Pear Nightcap, pear, patchouli and black rum
  • Sip & Squeeze, matcha and bergamot
  • Bright & Bubbly, cranberry prosecco and blood orange

And the room sprays? SOLD OUT. I went home and made more overnight so I'd have some for Sunday.

Lesson learned: soaps stay wrapped on the table from now on, with samples out for smelling. Little things like that make every market a bit smoother.

Sunday: Massapequa Park Street Fair

This one was BIG. Massapequa Park turned into one of our best markets since I started last October.

Candles sold like hot cakes. So many of you took home 2, 3, even 4 at a time. And our last two customers of the day? They took home 15 concrete candles. I'm still not over it.

It rained on and off all day, but the side walls went up, the booth stayed cozy, and nobody seemed to mind one bit.

The best part

Honestly, my favorite thing about markets is the people. You come over to smell a candle and next thing we're talking about everything. Your favorite fall scents. Reusing the vessels as planters. The other makers you love shopping from.

It's so nice being around people who care about the same things. Supporting local. Being a little more sustainable. Good, clean scents. Thank you for every conversation. šŸ¤

Next stop: Huntington, where it all started

When I was finishing my medical degree, I never would've thought I'd one day be making candles as a business.

A year ago, the Long Island Fall Festival in Huntington was my very first market ever. I was so nervous. I was figuring out everything as I went. Insurance, liability, what to bring, how to pack the car without bringing my whole house.

My very first market, Huntington 2025

A few months ago I got laid off. It was hard, but it gave me the time and the fire to finally give this my all.

So much has changed since that first market:

  • I now make my own concrete vessels, shaped and colored by hand, and made to be reused, not tossed
  • I added linen and room sprays
  • I started making soap
  • I upgraded my packaging
  • I learned how to pack and transport everything without overpacking (still learning)

This weekend I'm going back to where it all started, and I'm so proud of how far this little business has come.
