About Us

Silk and Soul began long before the first candle was poured.

I grew up in Guyana, and I've always loved making things by hand. While I studied biology as a pre-med student, I started a tie-dye clothing brand. It carried me financially through all four years of school. When I moved to Cuba to study medicine, I couldn't keep it going the same way, but I had customers who waited every summer for me to come home to Guyana and dye their clothes.

I went on to become a family physician in Guyana. In 2015, I moved to the United States to be with my husband, and later earned my master's in healthcare administration. Through every chapter, that love for handmade things never left me. When my career path changed, I finally gave it room to grow.

That's how Silk and Soul was born. Today I hand-pour 100% soy candles with wooden wicks here on Long Island, into concrete vessels I make myself. Each vessel is sealed so it can live a second life as a planter, a catchall or a keepsake long after the last flicker.

For me, Silk and Soul is about slowing down, reconnecting with the beauty of ordinary moments, and celebrating faith and comfort in the everyday. Each piece is made with intention, to bring a little peace and warmth into your home.
